![]() The receiver’s volume can be turned up to max (50), and it remains clean, though it becomes painful as the eardrums cry out, “Good God, man! What are you trying to do to me? Turn it down!!!!” ![]() When does distortion kick in? Since the amplifier gains are set properly, and high pass crossovers of the amplifier are switched to on, never – at least not that is noticeable to the ears. The midbass, mid, and treble in this system put out by the Kenwood component set almost have too much power! The 8″ MTX powered subwoofer has trouble being loud enough to keep up. The system was designed for the front stage component speakers to steal the show, and the rear door speakers to simply add filler to the rear area. The weakest link in the system is the rear door coaxial speakers – okay for filler but not great sound quality alone. Therefore, the following assessments are my opinions on the sound of this system tweaked to my liking with a parametric equalizer.įor the price, this system has excellent sound volume and quality! We could not be happier with the Soundstream Picasso Nano amplifier and other components of the system. Some like more bass than others, and so on. A setup may have treble that sounds too harsh to one person while sounding just right to another. Put simply, we all have different ears and personal tastes regarding what sounds best. Even professional audiophiles listening to the same equipment will have different opinions on sound quality. The reason is simple what we hear is what counts when it comes to listening to music. With the small weight and size of this amp, it isn’t necessary to drill holes for mounting – just get some good industrial strength Velcro and good to go!Ĭurrently I only use my ears (and my wife’s) for system sound testing. Our Picasso Nano amp sits nicely under the front passenger seat with all wires hidden under carpet until connection to the amp. All new 14 gauge speaker wire was run to the door speakers instead of using factory wiring, to ensure a clean signal from the amplifier to the speakers. RCAs were run from the JVC receiver along the passenger side of the vehicle. Power cables then split off to the Picasso Nano PN4.520D and MTX powered subwoofer. Wiring was installed carefully, making sure power wire and RCAs did not cross paths – power wire was run from the driver’s side (where the battery is on 2007 Toyota Highlander) to a distribution block installed under the driver’s seat. For the low end, without sacrificing much space (which a mother of 2 needs for cargo), we added the 8″ MTX Audio RT8PT Universal Powered Subwoofer. We upgraded her front door speakers to Kenwood Kfc-P709Ps 6.5-Inch Performance Series Component Speaker System and rear doors with Kenwood 6.5″ coaxial speakers for rear fill. We paired our Soundstream PN4.520D to a JVC KW-HDR81BT CD receiver with 2.5v RCA outs. There is no need for higher signal to noise ratio when the volume on your receiver is at the minimum and the amplifier isn’t being called on to put out any power. Amplifier signal to noise ratio greatly improves when more of its power output is in use. Soundstream measured it at 1w, not full power. Note: The signal to noise rating looks low, but don’t be discouraged by that. The following link is for the official manual with more specs for those interested. On that note, this amp does not run hot – even after 30+ minutes of high volume play the surface is comfortable to the touch. We installed ours underneath the front passenger seat, with plenty of clearance between the amp and seat for ventilation. ![]() These dimensions make it useful for stealth installations. ![]() This amplifier weighs in at a lite 3.97 lbs (1.8 kg) with exceptional dimensions for the power and quality of output: 4.75″ x 9″ x 1.5″. This amplifier also has low and high pass filters locked at 80 Hz (12dB/octave) or can be set to “full range” mode with no filter. Who says size doesn’t matter? Well, they’re wrong! Yes, the motion of the ocean, or in this case, the sound of the stream, is very important, but if you want a car audio amplifier that puts out plenty of power while being in a small enough package to fit almost anywhere in a vehicle, the Soundstream PN4.520D is the way to go! When I was looking for an amplifier to drive the component speakers in my wife’s SUV, the big power but small size of this sexy black beauty fit the bill!Ĥ-channel class D amplifier: 100 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms 130 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms 260 watts RMS x 2 bridged at 4 ohms. ![]()
